Streaming is a fertile ground for discussing emerging topics; a kind of melting pot of ideas which, through conflict with one another, spit out an agreed upon consensus. This process can be messy or unruly, but it’s always fascinating to participate in. Newer topics like AI and politics are particularly volatile, with pundits and experts mixing in one space.
That brings us to the topic of discussion for today: Cryptocurrency. The wide range of cryptocurrencies vying for consumer attention and the oft-misunderstood mechanisms underlying the popularity or value of any given crypto prompt discussion. In this article, weโre going to look at the explosion in demand for crypto content on live streaming, as well as which cryptocurrency is most popular.
The data here is just a sliver of the insights weโve provided inside our Crypto on Live Streaming Report. Check out the full report here:
Coverage of Cryptocurrency is On The Rise on Live Streaming
As crypto has gained legitimacy from various celebrity-backed currencies and public discourse, streamers have taken it upon themselves to provide live commentary on news affecting crypto trading and crypto culture. From July 2023 to July 2024, around 150 unique channels hosted streams with โcryptoโ in the title per month. But in September of 2024, this number more than doubled as an influx of YouTube Non-gaming streamers started creating crypto content. YouTubeโs geographically-agnostic viewerbase and ability to host VODs of previously streamed content made it an attractive platform for a topic that is global, rapidly changing, and still valuable as a permanent resource after streaming.
Meanwhile, Twitch and Kick have remained relatively stable over this two-year period, with the same crypto-specialist channels holding onto the bulk of the viewership and making new channels redundant. However, itโs worth noting that while the unique channel count remains stable, the hours watched of crypto content has skyrocketed across all platforms in the last 12 months (more on that in the full report).
The Popularity of Different Cryptocurrencies in Online Chat
Across these channels, one cryptocurrency gets mentioned far more than any other. In the first half of 2025, Bitcoin was mentioned 590K times on Twitch and Kick, making it more than 3X more talked-about compared to the next most-discussed cryptocurrency Solana at 171K chat mentions. Often these names act as stand-ins for cryptocurrencies in general, like calling a vacuum cleaner a Hoover or a tissue a Kleenex. Bitcoin is the preferred stand-in for crypto in English-speaking communities, while Solana is very popular among other languages like Spanish-speaking communities.
Among the other cryptocurrencies listed, there are a mix of reasons why these particular currencies stand out. โMemeโ coins can drum up conversation that is often cynical or jocular, like Dogecoin with 20K chat mentions in H1 2025. Other coins have had a recent surge in demand due to solid backing and credibility leading to hype, such as Cardano (47K) and Ethereum (46K).
Streaming Categories and Games Attracting Crypto Discussions
For crypto brands and pundits, knowing which live streaming communities are chatting about which cryptocurrencies can allow you to activate your core audience or anticipate a shift in preference within the market. While we cover more specific communities in our full report, we wanted to showcase just one way of cutting down through live streaming audiences to see their preferences.
Among games and categories on Twitch and Kick, Non-gaming categories have significantly more discussion around crypto. The Just Chatting category had 176K chat mentions in H1 2025, outpacing the dedicated (but more niche) Crypto category at 101K chat mentions. Among games, popular MOBAs and Shooters were more likely to have discussions around crypto, including Escape from Tarkov (49K) and League of Legends (31K). Where this gets specific is when certain games tend to favour one cryptocurrency more than the average youโd expect. Take Ethereum, for example, which is discussed in a disproportionately high amount on Call of Duty: Warzone streams.

Crypto conversations on live streaming are getting louder and more complex. From YouTubeโs surge of new channels to Twitch and Kickโs loyal specialist communities, the appetite for crypto-focused content is growing. With different cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Solana carving out distinct cultural spaces across different audiences, itโs clear that live streaming is shaping the discussion around crypto.
